Accident Investigation

Naish offers comprehensive rail accident investigation services. This includes events such as derailments, collisions, level crossing and trespassing accidents. Naish’s investigations follow an internationally accepted approach and cover the areas of establishing the chain of events, data collection, data analysis, and making conclusions as to causes.

Safety Assessment

Safety assessments are another key function provided by Naish. This involves examining rail systems, analysing railway practices in specific functional areas and corridors, identifying risks, and making recommendations to mitigate them.

Risk Management

Risk management involves proactively identifying and managing risks within the transport setting. Naish takes a comprehensive approach to risk management, analysing issues related to infrastructure, rail operations, rail equipment and organizational factors.

PRESIDENT

Bio

Ian holds a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from London University, a Master’s Degree in Transportation Engineering from the University of New Brunswick and an MBA from the Ivey School of Business at Western University. He is also a European Rail Agency Independent Designated Expert and a Professional Engineer.

Since 2009, Ian has consulted, domestically and internationally in the areas of accident investigation, safety assessment, risk management and safety management systems. His clients have included national governments (Canadian, Irish and Saudi Arabian) as well as municipal governments and law firms across North America.

Ian’s previous experience in the rail safety area consisted of eight years at Transport Canada’s Railway Safety Directorate as Chief of Policy, Regulations and Standards. Ian also served for five years in the Canadian rail regulatory area as Senior Level Crossing Design Engineer.

From 1998 to 2009, Ian was the Director of Rail and Pipeline Investigations at the Transportation Safety Board of Canada and was directly accountable for the production of 180 Board investigation reports.

While at Transport Canada, Ian was presented with the Deputy Minister’s Award for Excellence and in 2006, at the Transportation Safety Board, he received the Executive Director’s Excellence in Leadership Award.
